Quan Yin is a goddess of mercy in Buddhist philosophy. She is known as the godess who hears the cries of the world and the one who perceives the sounds of the world. She is a symbol of compassion, motherhood, and virtue. According to legend, she renounced her own enlightenment to stay on earth and assist all sentient beings. She is worshiped by many people, who pray to her for fertility, protection, and healing. She is often depicted with a lotus flower, a vase of water, or a willow branch.
